The BCS has published a minimum standard for a conference to obtain AQ status, and there are other criteria that are not published as well. 
However, without first passing the test of "published" criteria, there is little doubt that a conference will ever get put to the test for the other standards.

A Memphis City Council committee voted to spend the money to design the proposed tail gating lawn leading up to the Liberty Bowl. 

The goal is to have the massive lawn finished in time for the first game at the Liberty Bowl. It's a tight schedule, but Thursday's vote to start the design process keeps the project on track.

The 52nd annual game — which will be nationally televised by ESPN — will be played Friday, Dec. 31 at 2:30 p.m. 

The game's rating was up 65 percent from the previous year when Kentucky played East Carolina. 


The Dec. 31 date is "one of the most sought-after on the bowl schedule this year," according to a statement from AutoZone Liberty Bowl's office.
