This weekend, Jazz in the Gardens returns to showcase acclaimed headliners and lesser known home-grown talent. In its fifth year, the outdoor concert at Sun Life Stadium is a source of pride for Miami Gardens -- a city that has long tried to disassociate itself from naysayers who doubted Florida's largest black municipality would succeed. Hosted by radio personality Tom Joyner, this year's lineup includes Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Melanie Fiona, Teena Marie, Robin Thicke, David Sanborn, Boys II Men,

Ever since Utah kicked down the door to college football's VIP room six years ago, the non-automatic qualifiers (né mid-majors) have been steadily building toward the ultimate playing-field leveler: a spot in the national title game. Boise State staged a legendary upset over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Utah topped former No. 1 Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl. Last season, two non-AQ teams lifted the velvet ropes, as Boise met TCU in the Fiesta.

The players were twin brothers named Robert and Harry Beaube who played at Emma Samsom in Gadsden, Al. They had led their team to a state championship. Now $500 doesn't sound like very much money in today's dollars, but in 1955, $500 would be worth $4,043 in today's dollars, so this was a serious accusation. One week later, Auburn was fined $2000 ($16,175 in 2010 dollars) by then SEC commissioner Bernie Moore in what amounted to a slap on the wrist.

The Bruins made great strides during the offseason in bolstering talent on both sides of the ball. However, UCLA faces a series of tests this upcoming year that will dictate whether they deserve to be mentioned in the conversation of 2010 Rose Bowl contenders. In order for UCLA to win the Pac 10 conference, it will need to avoid injuries and subpar performances from its quarterbacks, demand a more cohesive performance from its offensive line, and not give up big plays on defense and special teams.

There are only two other companies – AT&T and Coca Cola – with partnerships at that level.
